"boycott hell" (DeGarmo & Key, Newsboys)
it seems everyone i know is boycotting something. cari is boycotting target, my father in law is boycotting rebates, my dad avoids wal mart like the plague, my husband is boycotting any t-shirt that isn't black with some clever saying on it. its got me wondering what am i boycotting? so here's a list:
-christmas cards: they kill trees, require time i can never find, my addresses are more wrong than right, my handwriting is illegible,...and my husband thinks it is the quaint "wifely" thing to do (a sure way to get me to boycott!)
-american eagle: since the joy of olyvia entering our lives i am now too big to buy jeans there. yes, it was a soul crushingly painful discovery. fortuneately it was with my skinny long legged friend debbie...who wears a 3/4 or 5/6 (american size). i can post that because she never gets on the internet!
-the book "captivating": because it's not and i already know that women have wounds
-the following words: organic, community, fellowship, need (as in "i need new shoes" because i have no idea what need is)
-sainsburys online shopping: because 2 times they have not delivered our online grocery order...with no notice, because our order was "suspicious". how suspicious can it be when everything was ordered off your website?
-perfume: i already put on at least 5 products a day that are scented. if i don't smell good from that, then it's just not gonna happen.
-olyvia's car seat base: no one can figure out how to install it. yesterday when i picked tim up at the end of a 30 minute drive she was tipped over on her side in her car seat because of that stupid thing. she didn't even make a noise so i had no idea until tim saw it. yes, that's how bad of a mother i am.
-natures gate tens machine: this pain relief thing i rented for labour. it kept randomly shorting out. kill me.
i'm sure i'll come up with others, but this is where i am up to for now.
wal mart update: two nights ago i was sharing my new burning fossil fuels/supporting a corporate monopoly struggle with my internet challenged friend debbie. she said that target supports gay media. we decided we don't really have any idea what that means. my friend jeff said that wal mart is being sued because they weren't letting their workers have lunch! right now i think i'd rather support gay whatever than a corporate monopoly because i think it does more damage. thoughts?

I have not shopped at Walmart in forever. I wish it could be for the altruistic reasons you so eloquently state.
I don't shop there because our local Walmart smells like BO and takes you 45 minutes to get through the lines even if you are just buying a pack of chewing gum. I hate stink and lines.
I think the real issue of Walmart is they have cornered a market. Poorer people need the low prices. The problem is they continue to stay poor because of the economic pressure this monster retailer puts on local economies to keep prices and salaries down.
I hate walmart. I can't stay away from walmart. I pretty much withdrew my boycott statement when I "talked" to Tim about it in the first place. They are like, "higher class trash" though, and I hate Target. Really if I needed ot boycott it would be because the size clothes that fit me have those stupid waist bands and roll-up, button-up sleeves. With flowers. But girl, let me tell you, Neighborhood Market ROCKS if you are in a hurry. I never stand in line there. Walmart sucks. We drove Kmart pretty much out of the state because they were so trashy. Remember Venture? Kinda like that. Now they have Burlington coat factory. YUK. All this I write about while a woman lies in bed bleeding to death from somewhere right before my eyes, and 3 others are on vents with little to no chance of breathing on their own again...so there are more important things in the world. But you know, walmart is a multi cultural experience. If you want to have some fun go to one (Neighborhood market) and find a self-checkout, and choose the "espanol" feature. When I go to Nicaragua in March I may not be able to build a church...but I'll be able to checkout at the grocery store bilingually!!! By the way, that was my first boycott attempt. I didn't boycott Disney. So it lasted...a day. Really longer, because I haven't bought anything in a while.
I am a wal-mart shopper because I am a college student on a budget. That and it's the closet store to my school. I think it's an ok store. When it comes to grocery stores I'm a fan of Giant Eagle. Although they are turning corporate all over the place. Which means that I have no choice but to pay them Union Dues. For making $5.35 an hour I feel like I got ripped off tax-wise. There was a tax that took out $42 and it was some local thing. Anyway, I'll stop ranting about my pay check.
When reading about the boycotts, I noticed the word community. I've decided that community is a synonymn for Asbury. We have community hours which is the glazed over way of saying curfew. Don't get me wrong. I think community is important and has value. But I draw the line when pg-13 movies start getting edited (on the 'bury movie channel) for the betterment of the community. Anyway, I don't think I'm boycotting anything at the moment.
Hope that your visas come through!
